Charlotte's Web - Garth Williams, E.B. White, Kate DiCamillo

Ah, this is such a classic. This book is about a pig and spider who develop an unlikely friendship. They protect each other throughout the book. I would use this in my future classroom to teach character development. I would also throw in there that friendships can come from where you least expect them to come from. 

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing - Judy Blume

Lexile Level - 470

 

This book is about a 4th grade boy and his younger brother. Both the brother are going through school and are experiencing a lot of hard times. They have to find a way to get through them. This would be a good book to use with older grade for students to predict and solve problems. 

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie - Laura Joffe Numeroff, Felicia Bond

Lexile Level - AD660

 

This book is about a mouse that gets a cookie. The mouse then wants more and more things because he got his cookie. I would use this book in the classroom with cause and effect. If you give a mouse a cookie, what will happen. 

Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type - Doreen Cronin, Betsy Lewin

Lexile Level: AD160L

 

This is a book about literate cows. They start to be mischievous leaving the farm notes. Causing the farmer some trouble around the farm. I would use this a just a little fun book for the children to laugh at. It would be a good book to take a little break. 

How Much Can a Bare Bear Bear?: What Are Homonyms and Homophones? - Brian P. Cleary, Brian Gable

Just like the noun book, this book is really good for teaching grammar. I would use this book at the beginning of my lesson to introduce homographs and homophones. I love these books. 

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes - Eric Litwin, James Dean

Lexile Level: AD600L

 

This is about pete the cat going to school. He is a very relatable character for young children. He goes around the school very confident. I would read this to my class to show them that the first day of school is not scary at all. 

Should I Share My Ice Cream? - Mo Willems

Lexile Level: 180L

 

This is a book about and elephant and a pig. The elephant has an ice cream cone. He is debating whether or not to share it with his friend the pig. He ends up letting the ice cream melt. But his pig friend comes with another to give to him. I would use this book to talk to my students about sharing. I would tell them to always keep your friends in mind.

This book is all about grammar. Its about nouns. This is an adorable books for the class. It catchy and the students will love this. I would read this out loud to the class when I teach a lesson on nouns.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!! This is one of my favorites. Its about a little one that had many different paths to go down and has to choose. I would read this to my class then have them make up to different paths. A good path and a bad path and then ask them which one  they would want to travel. 

 
Today I Feel Silly: And Other Moods That Make My Day - Jamie Lee Curtis, Laura Cornell

Reading Level: K-2 and Lexile Level: 250L

 

This book book is about a little girl who encounter different emotions. I think this is a great book for children because it teaches them about the different emotions people deal with daily and it also shows them the proper way to handle each emotion. In my future classroom I would probably do a read aloud to my students. I would have them draw themselves showing an emotion and then ask them to explain to me in a few sentences how they felt when they had that emotion. 

A Bad Case of Stripes - David Shannon

Reading Level: K-2 and Lexile Level: 540L

 

This about a little girl that loves lima beans but will not eat them because nobody else likes them. She starts to get sick. Nobody knows what is wrong with her. This story isall about not being like somebody else, just be yourself. I would read  this to the students at the beginning of the year to let them know to be themselves. 

Stellaluna - Janell Cannon

Reading Level: 4th Lexile Level: 550L

 

This is about a little bat that gets lost. She finds a home with a bird family. Then she tries to act like a bird. She finally finds her family again. I would use this book for compare and contrast. I would have the students compare and contrast a bat and bird. 

The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister, J. Alison James

Lexile Level: AD410L

 

The rainbow fish is the "most beautiful fish in the entire ocean" and he refuses to share his gills with any other fish in the sea. The rainbow fish's selfishness isolates him because no one wants to be his friend. Later on, the rainbow fish asked for advice from an octopus and  then the fish "discovered how to be happy" by sharing his sparkling gills with his friends. 

 

I would use this book to teach my students how to share. 

Chrysanthemum - Kevin Henkes

Lexile Level: 460L

 

This book is about a little mouse with a unique name. She loves her name, but the children at school make fun of her. She gets upset, but her parents tell her she perfect and there is no reason to get upset. She embraces her name. I would use this book to teach children that everyone is different and that is okay. Different it good. 

Amazing Grace - Mary Hoffman, Caroline Binch

Lexile Level: 680L

 

This book is about a little girl who wants to be peter pan in her school play. There other children telling her she cant because shes a girl and she proves them wrong. I love this book!! This would be an amazing book to read to children no matter the age. To show them they can do whatever they set their minds to. 

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly - Simms Taback

Lexile Level: AD250L

 

This is a book about a crazy old lady that continuously swallows different animals. This book is very creative. I would use this book in my class room to get the students to put the animals in the correct order. I would use this in first grade.
